Michael Williams, 60, of Kathryn Street, Niles, died at 6:10 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend unexpectedly but of natural causes.
He was born May 27, 1950 in Greenwood, S.C. to P.C. and Arena (Wash) Williams and graduated from Brewer High School in Greenwood. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, serving in the United States Army. He continued his military service in the Army National Guard of Michigan at the Dowagiac Armory.
Michael was employed at the former Jessup Door Co., Dowagiac for 23 years, and then at the former National Copper Products, Dowagiac for 12 years.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Dowagiac, and enjoyed watching many different sports on television.
His family remembers him as a quiet and humble man who took care of his family.
On Jan. 6, 1973 in Dowagiac he married the former Mary E. Houston, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Michael D. Williams of Granger, Ind. and Tanea R. Williams of Niles; grandchildren, Ian M. Williams and Elizabeth K. Williams; and Michael’s brothers and sisters, Odell Williams of Richmond, Va. and Robert Williams, Christine Wiley, Nancy Reese and the Rev. Shirley Kinard, all of Greenwood; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, P.C. Williams, Jr. and Walter Williams; and sisters, Barbara Williams and Deborah Williams.
The funeral service for Michael Williams will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9 at Second Baptist Church in Dowagiac with the Rev. Marvin T. Pace of the church officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bryant L. Bacon of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Niles.
Committal will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
