Bobcats fare well at Spring Break Relays

CONSTANTINE — The Brandywine boys’ track team captured four events at the Constantine Spring Break Relays on Thursday.
The Bobcats took first place in the shot put relay, the discus relay, the pole vault relay and the 4×800-meter relay.
In the shot put relay, the team of Josh Flanagan, Stone Hadley and Jacob Frazier finished with a total distance of 122-foot-6. Berrien Springs was second with a total of 109-4 and Constantine third with a 106-2. Cassopolis took fourth with a distance of 105-6.
Frazier threw 51-6 to lead the Bobcats in the event.
In the discus relay, Mike Lewark, Frazier and Hadley totaled 302-8 to easily outdistance runner-up Centerville, which finished with a distance of 271-2.
The Bobcat high jumpers of Dennis Angeles, Nick Srmek and Jake Wieger finished with a total height of 27-feet. Centerville took second with a height of 23-6.
In the 4×800-meter relay, Brandywine posted a time of 9:21.65. The team consisted of A.J. Srmek, Angeles, Mike Robbins and Elliot Richards.
Brandywine also finished second in the shuttle hurdle and 4×400-meter relays, third in the 4×200-meter relay, fourth in the 4×1600-meter and 4×100-meter relays and fifth in the long jump relay.
The Bobcats did not win any events in the girls’ portion of the meet, but place fifth in the shot put relay, the discus relay and the long jump relay.
“We’re excited,” Brandywine coach Terry Borr said. “We still have pieces of the puzzle we have to put together to see where we can be. We told the kids that this was a barometer. Some of them have set goals for themselves to end the season in Comstock Park at the state finals.”
