A runners' clinic with Joe Piane, head track and cross country coach at the University of Notre Dame, will kick off the activities Saturday for the 30th running of Southwestern Michigan College's Steve's Run.
The race is held in memory of Steven Briegel, an SMC honors graduate who died as a result of cancer in 1990.
The free clinic will be held at the Fred L. Mathews Conference Center on SMC's Dowagiac campus today at 7 p.m.
Piane will focus on how to improve a runner's 5K and 10K times. Clinic participants may register for the race that evening for $15.
Runners who have pre-registered for the race may pick up their registration packets from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the clinic site.
Registration will continue on race day, Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Dowagiac train depot.
The 10K run, 5K run and the 5K walk will start at 9 a.m. in downtown Dowagiac. A special 1K fun run will start at 9:03 a.m.
