BUCHANAN — Ben Sadler is hoping to bring his vast national experience in business to his job as executive director of the Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce.
Sadler, who began Feb. 7, replaces Monroe Lemay, who resigned at the end of 2010 after approximately three years in the position.

A Buchanan High School graduate, Sadler spent 30 years in sales and marketing, including nationally with Coldwell Banker and Prudential Real Estate.
“I’ve owned businesses here in town before,” he said Friday. “I thought maybe I could make a difference.”
Although his career moved him to many locales, including Chicago, Maryland and Florida, Sadler flew home when possible to be with his wife, Kathy, and their four children at their permanent home in Buchanan.
“I personally have lived all over the U.S.,” he said. “The quality of life here … it wasn’t worth it to leave my family.”
Sadler said his goals as Chamber director are to boost membership — six members have been recruited so far, boosting membership to about 155 — promote Buchanan, Buchanan Township,  Bertrand Township, Galien and Niles Township to tourism groups and potential residents; and work closely with the city and Downtown Development Authority.
He also believes residents need to be more aware of what the Chamber does for the area, like the chili cook-off, golf tournaments and monthly member breakfasts.
“A lot of people don’t even know we have a farmers’ market here, and that’s a shame,” Sadler said. “I think one of the things I’m bringing to the Chamber is a business background. I may look at this job more differently.”
