Chieftain golfers finish second at jamboree

KALAMAZOO – On the heels of its first jamboree win of the season, the Dowagiac varsity golf team backed it up with a second place finish on Thursday at Eastern Hills.
Plainwell won the Wolverine Conference Jamboree hosted by Comstock with a team score of 160.
The Chieftains were second with a 165.
Vicksburg continues to lead the overall conference standings with 54 points. Gull Lake is second with 50 points and Dowagiac third with 48.
Otsego is currently in fourth place with 43 points and Plainwell rounds out the top five with 39.
Paw Paw (33), Comstock (24), South Haven (21), Three Rivers (9) and Allegan (8) currently hold down the final five places in the standings.
Tyler Swinehart of Plainwell earned medalist honors on Thursday with a one under par 35.
Chris Craft led the Chieftains with a 39. Dowagiac also got a pair of 41s from Max Howe and Kyle Ward.
Cody Fairleigh shot 44 and Joey Gajewski finished with a 51.
Both Craft and Howe are currently in the top five in scoring average for the league, which Fairleigh is just outside the top 20.
The Dowagiac junior varsity golf team on Wednesday lost to Edwardsburg 188-222.
Pierce Bourgeios led the Eddies with a 43. Dominic Razzano shot 45 and Max Habicht 49. Edwardsburg also got a 51 from Gabe Collins, a 53 from Mitch Patzer and a 59 from Kail Walker.
Dowagiac was led by Gage Grant's 49. Nick Stewart shot 53, Brad Hornburg 56, while Andrew Cripe and Joe Badner both shot 64.
