The eighth Easter Eggstravaganza, hosted by Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce and underwritten, in part, by Midwest Energy Cooperative in Cassopolis, welcomes children dressed as little pink and white bunnies to enter the annual "Be a Bunny" costume contest.
The old-fashioned Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 4, will be staged in and around Beckwith Park for children ages 2 to 8 years old.
Corporate and community sponsors of the springtime celebration are Midwest Energy Cooperative, a Chamber of Commerce member from Cassopolis; Kappa Beta Sorority of Dowagiac and the city Department of Public Safety.
The springtime event opens at 11:45 a.m. at Beckwith Park, where the annual "Be a Bunny" costume contest will be held, according to event co-chairmen Trish Brazo, team leader of Huntington Bank, and Vickie Phillipson, program director of the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development Authority.
Brazo is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, who will be chairing the event in 2010.
Phillipson said children wearing a bunny costume will vie for first-, second- and third-place awards, with each of the winners receiving a plush toy or Easter basket.
Parents of the children who plan to enter the contest should meet event organizers at 11:40 beneath the Haggin-Wimberley bandstand, where costumes will be judged at 11:45, and awards will be presented with pictures taken by the media prior to the egg hunt.
"Parents are also encouraged to bring their cameras and are invited to take pictures of their children during the Easter egg hunt and afterwards, as they meet the Easter Bunny," Brazo said. "Following the scavenger hunt, youngsters can also participate in chalk art."
