MARSHALL – The Medalist Golf Club, located in Marshall, has been selected to host the 37th annual Michigan State Junior Boy's Championship.
The event, which is one of the most popular and historical junior events in Michigan, will be played on Aug. 25-27.
"We are very excited to host the 37th annual Michigan State Junior Championship at the Medalist," said Lowell Weaver-General Manager and Director of Golf for the Medalist Golf Club. "The Osprey Group has always taken pride in being part of junior golf with our junior scholarship program, so it is only natural that we host a state junior championship event of this magnitude. I believe the golf course will be a very good test in determining the best players from around Michigan."
The championship event will attract the top junior golfers from around Michigan.
The tournament format has changed from its previous 36-hole format to a new 54-hole format that colleges utilize.
The championship is open to boys 13-18 years of age who have a handicap index of 5.5 or better.
Special exemptions also exist for players who have made the 2008-2009 Michigan all-state team in their respective divisions.
In addition, regional qualifiers, top 12 finishers in the 2008 championship, Junior Golf Honor Roll, and other junior major winners will also be invited.
Mike Nagy, a junior at Manistique High School from Manistique, will be defending his Championship. This is Michigan's highest golf honor to win and be named "Michigan Champion of the year".
Entry deadline is Aug. 15 at 6 p.m.
