Buchanan tennis suffers rare loss Saturday

The Buchanan varsity tennis team rarely loses in dual-match competition, but Saturday's matchup with Division 2 No. 7-ranked Midland Dow was too much for the Bucks, ranked No. 3 in Division 4, to handle.
Dow registered a 5-3 victory over Buchanan to drop the Bucks' overall record to 7-1.
Midland Dow won two of four singles matches and three of four doubles matches.
At No. 1 singles, Midland's Alex Birchmeier beat Jose Gonzalez 6-3, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, Buchanan's Jeff Eifler beat Neal Rakesh 6-4, 6-0. Buchanan's True Sulier beat Ritesh Kotecha 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Midland's Matt Villareal beat Ryan Skene 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
The Midland No. 1 doubles team of Scott Charlton and Zach Riggle beat Chad Van Lue and Doug Summers 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 2 doubles, the Buchanan team of Alex Flood and Alex Gordon beat Marcelo Rolim and Kyle Williams 6-4, 6-2.
After a battle at No. 3 doubles, the Midland team of Steve Bagineck and Raphael Haberman beat Mike Otwell and Korey Camp 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
At No. 4 doubles, the Midland team of Nate Stevick and Gene Young beat Dustin Sieff and Andrew Gordon 6-2, 6-4.
Buchanan travels to Kalamazoo Christian, which is ranked No. 9 in Division 4, today.
