CASSOPOLIS -- Commissioner Terri Kitchen reported to the other Cass County Commissioners at its April meeting last Thursday that Silver Creek Township voted the night before to join the Cass County District Library.
A vote will be taken on July 8 to approve the .75 millage, which would bring $100,000 to the Cass District Library. A small branch near the lakes would serve that area, they hoped.
She told the commissioners at the Cass County Council on Aging "the response to Wayne Township or Dowagiac is still unknown."
Commissioner Larry Malsch, who represents the board on the Cass County Road Commission, requested they work with state officials in having street lights at M-217 and U.S. 12 in Union. His resolution passed.
The area has seen four accidents since opening in September 2002, Malsch said, with the intersection becoming hazardous in the dark or during bad weather conditions.
Jack Teter, commissioner from Edwardsburg, asked for support and volunteers to a task force which will provide information to those unable to afford their prescription drugs.
Teter said free and reduced cost drugs are offered by many companies, but the information on how to file for help needs to be available to those on limited incomes.
County Administrator Terry Proctor thanked everyone involved with the safe return of Lindsey Ryan. "It's quite a relief to all of us."
In other business the board:
Uncollected revenue for the past seven years, as of the end of the year, amounted to $425,853.81.
