First victory: Dowagiac defeats Comstock at Delton Kellogg tournament

DELTON – The Dowagiac varsity wrestling team earned its first dual meet victory of the season on Saturday at the Delton Kellogg Invitational.
The Chieftains defeated Wolverine Conference foe Comstock 40-35.
Dowagiac was defeated by Delton Kellogg (57-13), Holland West Ottawa (74-3), Greenville (60-13) and Cedar Springs (54-18) to end up 1-4 on the day.
The Chieftains' Sinjin Ownby went 4-1 on the day, losing only to Holland West Ottawa, whose heavyweight is ranked No. 1 in the state.
Andrew Hurrle finished the tournament at 3-2, while Michael McNeil, Kasey Proshwitz and Ryan Smit were all 2-3.
Ownby is now 15-2 on the season for the Chieftains. Hurrle is 9-6 and McNeil 9-8.
Proshwitz is currently 8-7 on the year heading into Wednesday's match at Berrien Springs.
"We have to get some more people in the line up and we have to close up some of those forfeits," Dowagiac coach John Green said.
