Dowagiac bats batter Bobcats

Host Dowagiac took out the whooping sticks on Thursday afternoon in sweeping Brandywine in non-conference play.
The Chieftains hit five home runs in a 5-2 and 10-0 sweep of the Bobcats at Rotary Park.
Senior Jeff Cooper hit three home runs, two in the nightcap, while classmate Richie Burling hit two home runs in the opening game.
Senior Davey Moran and junior Scott Wilkinson were the recipients of the power surge by the Chieftains.
Moran (3-1) went the distance in the opening game, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Wilkinson tossed a two-hitter with three strikeouts over five innings.
Dowagiac banged out 12 hits in the first game, including two each for Burling, senior Chris Singleton, junior Rob Duszynski and senior Eddie Campbell.
Burling hit a solo home run and a two-run blast for the Chieftains.
Cooper's two-run shot came in the bottom of the sixth.
Singleton singled and doubled to drive in a run, while Duszynski also was credited with an RBI.
In the second game Cooper hit a pair of two-run home runs.
Sophomore David Stuppy added a double, while junior Jesse Cox and Duszynski each added singles.
Dowagiac (6-2) will host Buchanan at Rotary Park today at 4 p.m. Brandywine (1-6) travels to Bridgman for a Lakeland Conference doubleheader today at 4 p.m.
