CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a two-car, personal-injury traffic crash on M-51 near Swamp Street in Wayne Township. Deputies arrived and found both drivers trapped and injured inside their vehicles after the 7:37 a.m. crash on Monday, Nov. 17.
Deputies determined that Janet Caldwell-Rhoton, 39, of Decatur, was south bound on M-51 and driving too fast for the road conditions.
Caldwell-Rhoton lost control of her vehicle, crossed the centerline and hit the second vehicle being driven by Annatha Coffy, 53, of Dowagiac.
Coffy was northbound on M-51.
Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles and transported to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.
Sheriff's deputies were assisted by Sister lakes Fire and Ambulance Service and Coloma Ambulance Service.
Seatbelts were used.
Alcohol was not a factor.
