On behalf of Safe Kids Cass County we would like to thank all of the individuals and agencies that helped to make our inaugural Cass and Berrien County safety event a huge success.
Safe Kids Cass County is a collaboration of local agencies with the intention of providing information, education and events in an attempt to keep children safe.
Safe Kids Cass County and Safe Kids Berrien County worked together to provide a day of safety activities.
This event was held on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Stop In Family Restaurant in Niles.
Sept. 20 was National Safety Seat Inspection Day.
Many inspection events were taking place all over the nation.
At this event we had a car seat inspection station and safety in and around vehicles station.
The Howard Township Fire Department was on hand with a smoke house, demonstrating what children should do in case of a fire.
We even had a visit from Smokey the Bear handing out various fire safety materials.
Also on site was Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service (SMCAS) providing safety information to children participating in this event.
Our certified car seat technicians for this event were Trooper Rob Herbstreith from Michigan State Police's Niles post and Deputy Katie White from the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
These two technicians inspected 21 car seats and provided proper seats for those children who were in need.
Car seats were donated to these children by the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
Safe Kids Cass County and Berrien County would like to thank the following for their donation of time, materials or funding: Wal-Mart in Niles, Howard Township Fire Department, SMCAS, Cass County Health Department, C. Wimberley GM, Department of Human Services, Girl Scout Troops 30726, 30797and 30796, Stop In Family Restaurant and the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Without all of these individuals and agencies, we would not been able to provide this great safety event.
We would also like to thank all of the media agencies that advertised and did feature articles on our event. A huge part of our success was from all of your work and time. We hope Safe Kids Cass County will continue to provide safety events to the children of Cass County.
