Shawn Mooney, 17, the son of Paul and Desiree Mooney, of Niles had his Eagle Scout Court of Honor from St. Mary’s Troop 579 on June 7 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Niles.

He has been a Scout since first grade and has earned 24 badges. He also participated in the Governor’s Honor Guard on Mackinac Island during the summer of 2008.

For his Eagle project, Mooney supervised his troop in building the frame for the ice rink at Eastside Park. This included cutting and assembling the frame, which the troop and several community members helped set up. The rink has already been used for two seasons.
