EAST LANSING – Chris Noble’s goal when he headed to the Division 2 state golf finals was to make the top 10.
Niles’ Noble missed that goal by a single stroke.
Noble finished 11th after shooting a 151.
On Friday he opened up with a 76, while on Saturday he shot a stroke better and finished with a 75.
“With three holes to go he was one over and just made a couple of mistakes,” Niles coach Greg Gunder said. “I think he was looking at the light at the end of the tunnel.”
DeWitt captured the Division 2 championship after shooting a 607, which was 16 strokes better than runner-up Haslett, which finished with a 617.
Grand Rapids Christian (621), East Grand Rapids (624) and Wolverine Conference champion Vicksburg was fifth (632).
Joey Garber of Petoskey shot 68 on Saturday to rally and claim the individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 142.
