Marian F. Barr, 92, of Columbine Street in Niles died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Hospice House in South Bend following a brief illness.

Mrs. Barr was born Nov. 25, 1917 in Chicago to Wendell and Augusta (Grolert) Becker.

Marian owned and operated for many years Marian’s Beauty Shop out of her home.

She enjoyed golfing, and got a hole-in-one at Studebaker Golf Course in South Bend. She also enjoyed bowling in many area leagues and won a state championship at Beacon Bowl many years ago.

On March 6, 1937 in Niles, she married Woodrow P. “Woody” Barr, who preceded her in death Aug. 25, 1986.

Mrs. Barr is survived by her daughters, Beverly (David) Downs and Barbara (Charles) Smith and a son, Roger (Winnie) Barr, all of Niles; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Dorothy Hoffman, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two nieces; and one nephew.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Eleanor Nieb, who died June 15, 2005.

Funeral services for Marian F. Barr will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Niles with Pastor Jim Wing of the church officiating.

Interment will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
