Louis P. Gibson, 50, of Elkhart, Ind., passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at 6:52 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, with his family by his side. Louis' life began on Feb. 6, 1958, in Dowagiac, the son of Louis P. Sr. and the late Mae (Linn) Gibson. Louis was a member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and he enjoyed NASCAR, going to the casino and a good TV program, but his big enjoyment was his family.
His family includes: his wife Rebecca Marie (Logan) Gibson of Elkhart; sons Louis R. Gibson of Michigan, Paul I. Gibson of Arkansas and Timothy A. Gibson of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; his father Louis P. Gibson and step-mother Ruth M. Gibson of Dowagiac; half-brothers Robert Linn of Dowagiac and Louis P. Gibson of Elkhart; half-sister Nancy Magnis of Niles; and uncle Bud Gibson of Dowagiac. His family will gather on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home, Dowagiac.
His tribute led by Tribal Elder Clarence White will take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
