CASSOPOLIS – Opal Harpole, 77, of Niles, lost her life Thursday afternoon when she failed to stop in Jefferson Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
Harpole was traveling south on Dailey Road shortly before 1 p.m. when she apparently disregarded the stop sign and continued into the intersection, where her car was hit by a westbound vehicle on M-60 driven by RIcky Hitt, 45, of Kalamazoo, who was unable to avoid the collision.
Harpole died at the scene. Hitt was not hurt. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
The crash remains under investigation.
