It was a night meant to honor its seniors and to have some fun.

The Dowagiac varsity volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule with Senior Night.

The Chieftains honored Abbi Gnatz, Kaisha Martin, Katie Lorenz, Kielie Belew and Devon Ownby, but were unable to pick up a win as visiting Paw Paw swept the Chieftains 3-0.

The Redskins won the first set 25-12, took the second 25-15 and completed the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third set.

“Tonight was just about seniors, having fun and making sure everyone played,” Dowagiac coach Bill Anderson said. “I told the girls two weeks ago they already won regardless of the wins and the losses. They have already won, so just come out and have fun. That’s what they did and they played OK.

“It’s been a season of learn, just getting to know each other on the team and knowing volleyball,” he added.
