NILES – The robbery of the Greater Niles Federal Credit Union on Thursday led to a chase that ended in Indiana and involved several law enforcement agencies.
No one was hurt during the robbery and the two suspects took an undisclosed amount of money.
The robbery allegedly took place at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Pam Payne, an administrative assistant with the Niles Township Police, said Niles Township Police officers first spotted the vehicle traveling south on 11th Street near Bertrand Road.
Payne said the driver was taken into custody and the other suspect escaped after an undisclosed "chain of events" transpired.
The suspect allegedly sped off dragging an officer down the road. for nearly 50 feet.
Two of the officers were treated for minor injuries.
The suspect led the chase into Indiana, just north of South Bend.
The chase ended peacefully after a standoff that lasted nearly an hour and half at the Heritage Inn on Indiana 933.
The suspects are believed to be involved in another robbery that took place at a Key Bank in South Bend earlier on Thursday morning.
One of the suspects is currently being lodged at the Niles Police Department and the other is being held in St. Joseph County.
Officers from Niles Township, Niles City, Michigan State Police, South Bend, Mishawaka and St. Joseph County were all involved in the apprehension of the suspects.
