Jack’s life began on Sept. 3, 1942, in Lawrence, the son of Stephen and Pauline (Worthington) Szymanowski.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

Jack was united in marriage to Virginia Roberts on May 8, 1982, in Dowagiac. He was employed as an electrician at Denso, Contech and retired after 20 years of service with Whirlpool Corp.

Jack was a member of Decatur VFW Post 6248 and Dowagiac Moose Lodge 933. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and building and flying model airplanes.

His loving family includes: his wife, Virginia Szymanowski of Dowagiac; his children, Jeffrey (Crystal) Fletcher of Dowagiac, Tammy (Roy) Freeman of Eau Claire, Trevor (Kerri) Szymanowski of North Concord, Vt., Michelle Brimer of Dowagiac and Trent Szymanowski of Plainwell; grandchildren, Stephanie and Rebecca Fletcher, Jennifer (David) Klemm, Tori Freeman, Kaleigh and Holden Szymanowski, Emily Hawkins and Trey Szymanowski; great-granddaughter, Madison Klemm; brother-in-law, Cliff Hysell; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack passed away at his home on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010. He is preceded in death by a sister, Cleo Hysell, and a brother, Richard Szymanowski.

His family will gather with friends on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel, where his funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. led by Pastor John Green.

He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery with full military honors.
