NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Relatively quiet since the opening quarter, Armando Allen picks it up in the later stages of the fourth quarter and gave the Notre Dame offense some life.
He runs for 33 yards on his last three carries to help Notre Dame tack on three points for a 23-12 advantage with 4:30 remaining in the contest.
- Kyle Rudolph finally gets a pass thrown his way. The result sets up the Fighting Irish inside the Purdue 20-yard line.
- Notre Dame special teams have played well throughout the game. Kick coverage has been excellent and the Irish are 3-for-3 on field goals.
- When the Fighting Irish needed big play out of its defense, they got it. Once Purdue had cut the lead to a one score game, the defense stepped up and once again stuffed the Purdue offense.
- Like the previous three coaches before him (Bob Davie, Tyrone Willingham and Charlie Weis), Brian Kelly wins first game at Notre Dame.
- The Fighting Irish open the Kelly era with a 23-12 win over Purdue
- Notre Dame is now 102-15-5 in season openers and have won 20 of its last 24.
- Notre Dame will take on Michigan at Notre Dame Stadium next Saturday. The Wolverines were a 30-10 winner in its season opener against Connecticut.
