Buchanan can’t close deal against Eddies

Despite holding a two games to one lead, the Buchanan varsity volleyball team could not post a victory Wednesday night at Edwardsburg.
The host Eddies won the first game 15-7 before Buchanan came back to win the next two games by scores of 15-8 and 15-12. Edwardsburg, however, rallied for wins of 15-10 and 15-12 to seal the victory.
The victory lifts Edwardsburg to 9-2-3 overall and 3-0 in league play. Buchanan falls to 6-10-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Kate Habicht and Shana Stoops led the Edwardsburg hitting attack with nine kills apiece. Jessica Rafalski and Sarah Lange each added seven kills while Jessica Shotwell helped out with six kills.
Ashlee Layher led the Bucks with 19 kills and Holly Tibbs added seven.
Shelley Roberts had four aces for Edwardsburg while Habicht, Stoops and Lange each had two aces.
Rachelle Weldy had four aces to lead Buchanan.
Habicht also paced the Edwardsburg defense with 27 digs. Stoops had 20 digs and Lange had 16 digs. Lange also had 28 assists.
Rafalski had a team-high five blocks while Habicht and Shotwell each had two blocks.
Veronica Andersson led the Bucks with seven blocks. Ali Bender had 12 digs and Jaclyn Mummaw had 11 digs. Bender also had 31 assists.
Buchanan hosts Bridgman Wednesday in Lakeland Conference play while Edwardsburg hosts Brandywine the same day.
