NILES -- The Niles branch of the NAACP hosted an informative and encouraging college bound students at the Niles Public Library Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
The presentation was moderated by Niles High School guidance counselor Ted Potts and featured Myrtie Coleman, assistant director of Educational Talent Search, as the guest speaker.
Educational Talent Search is a program sponsored by the University of Notre Dame that assists students who need some extra help and want to continue their education beyond high school.
The program helps students by providing them with financial aid assistance and the support and advice they need to go to college.
Coleman spoke to visiting students and parents on issues such as the availability of financial aid and what it takes to be a successful student.
The presentation also featured a panel of five recent college graduates, who shared their experiences of how they succeeded in high school, college, and now with their careers.
The night was full of useful advice for prospective college students.
Potts also added some beneficial information for students once they are in college.
He went on to inform interested parties of a financial aid workshop that will take place in the cafeteria of Niles High School on Jan. 8 at 7 p.m.
