M. Isabel Frizzo, 94, of Platt Street, Niles Township died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at her home following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 27, 1915 in Louisville, Ky. to Edward George Hertel and Maude Mae (Ruby) Hertel. She moved to Niles 60 years ago, in 1948, from East Lansing, Mich.
She was a former owner and operator with her husband of Westside Supermarket in Niles until 1973. She graduated from Michigan State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in home economics and English. She also managed the Officer’s Club. She enjoyed the antique business and traveling.

On June 29, 1940 in East Lansing she married Leo Victor Frizzo, who died Oct. 21, 1991. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Edward Hertel and Crawford Hertel, and a sister, Marguerite Hertel.
She is survived by her daughter, Janine (Larry) Frizzo Horrigan of Niles; granddaughter, Jordan (Chris) Wagner of Niles; grandson, Aaron Victor Frizzo-Dibble of Niles; and great-granddaughters, Hayden Isabel Wagner and Paige Marie Wagner.
A memorial open house in memory of Isabel Frizzo will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 1826 Platt St. in Niles.
