Buchanan defeated by host Mishawaka

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Buchanan boys’ basketball team dropped its second straight game and its third in the last four contests as host Mishawak scored a 58-53 non-conference win Tuesday night.
The game was close throughout with the Bucks holding a 13-12 lead after one period of play.
The Cavemen were able to open up a 25-12 advantage at the intermission after outscoring the Bucks 13-8 in the second quarter.
Mishawaka (7-5) continued to build on its advantage and led 43-34 heading to the final quarter.
Buchanan wasn’t able to build enough momentum in the final eight minutes to rally for a victory.
Javonte Young led the Cavemen with a game-high 19 points, while Joe Schuster added 11.
The Bucks were paced by a trio of players who scored nine points.
Daniel Blackwell, Ryan Catalano and Andrew Hearington all scored nine points, while Jalen Brown chipped in with eight.
The Bucks are back to work next Tuesday as they head south of the border again, this time to take on South Bend Clay.
Buchanan will return home on Friday, Feb. 5 when it hosts Cassopolis in a Lakeland Conference contest.
The Bucks are now 6-5 on the season.
