Since its 1999 inception, Dowagiac's housing rehabilitation grants (through July 25) have led to $911,000 in homeowner improvements through 270 projects, according to a compilation by city Building Official James Bradford.
The city's grants toward those improvements total approximately $76,000, according to City Manager Dale Martin. Approximately $3,200 in incentives remain available for this fiscal year. At this time, four applications have been submitted for consideration at the review committee's August meeting. For additional information related to housing rehabilitation grants, contact Bradford at the city's Building Department, 782-8427.
The city's annual hydrant flushing takes place through Aug. 2. It will take several flushings to clear water mains of accumulated iron deposits, which may discolor water. If your water is discolored, drain your hot water tank to remove rust particles, then flush water pipes by letting water run five to 10 minutes. Direct hydrant flushing questions to DPS at 782-8200.
