NILES -- It's not there yet, but it will be.
Lonnie Jones' name will soon be appearing in the MHSAA Record Book, accessible on the internet at www.mhsaa.com.
With his 377-yard rushing performance Friday against Sturgis, Jones boosted his season total to 2,369 yards which is good enough for the 15th best season of all-time in Michigan high school history.
Chris Lomasney of Clinton Township Chippewa Valley holds the all-time record for rushing yardage in a single season. He covered 2,890 yards on 360 carries in 2000.
Jones surpassed the southwest Michigan record of 2,239 yards set by Dowagiac's Brent Lesniak in 1996.
Lomasney's record season included 14 games. Lesniak's season was 12 games long.
Jones has played just 10 games and is guaranteed at least one more game as Niles takes on Lakeshore Friday night.
Jones needs 95 yards to move up one spot on the record book list.
