Rubino helps St. Mary’s to MIAA opening win

OLIVET – Former Dowagiac standout Lisa Rubino helped St. Mary's College open up MIAA tennis play with an 8-1 victory over host Olivet College.
Rubino, who plays No. 4 singles for St. Mary's, defeated Celeste Gruber, 6-1 and 6-2.
Rubino is now 5-3 in single play.
She also teamed up with Mary E. Campbell to defeat Abbie Utberg and former Buchanan standout Jaclyn Mummaw in doubles play, 8-5. Mummaw was also defeated in singles competition by Camille Gebert of SMC, 6-2 and 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Rubino is 4-4 in doubles competition.
St. Mary's is now 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA. Olivet drops to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
