What a nice way to end 2006 and usher in 2007, doing a community service project.
The girls in Positively Dance from Miss Kathy's School of Dance prepared and served a soup/salad supper at the senior center in Decatur to approximately 130 people.
This year, the girls will do a number of community service projects to give back to the community that helps support this non-profit organization.
Upcoming events include April performances at local nursing homes and elementary schools during National Dance Week and a performance at the Cherry Festival in Eau Claire in July.
Feb. 17, they performed at the Blossomtime Bud Prince/Princess contest at Dowagiac Middle School Performing Arts Center (DMS PAC).
Positively Dance is designed for girls/boys from ages 6 to 18 who love to dance. It gives those who love to dance the opportunity to do so without auditions. These dancers practice every Saturday for four hours in addition to the classes that they take weekly at Miss Kathy's.
This year, the dance troupe will be performing at two competitions – the first in Chicago in April and the second in Detroit in May.
If the girls earn a qualifying score, they will then have the opportunity to go to national dance competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in July.
The spring show for Positively Dance will take place at 2 p.m. April 28 at the DMS PAC.
Tickets cost $3 and can be purchased from any Positively Dance member or at Miss Kathy's School of Dance in Dowagiac, the Niles Academy of Performing Arts or Miss Kathy's School of Dance in Decatur. There will be several guest artists as well as all Positively Dance members performing in this show.
Members of Positively Dance will also begin fundraising for their trip in the summer of 2008, to a destination to be determined March 10. This trip will not only be of educational value, as the girls see dances of the region they will be visiting, but will also give the girls an opportunity to show the people of the region dances from its studio; 2007 looks to be a very busy year for all members of Positively Dance.
