Bobcats, Buchanan enjoy first state finals

The Brandywine and Buchanan tennis teams made their first ever appearances in the Division 4 State Finals in Holland Friday.
Buchanan finished with four points while Brandywine scored two.
Detroit Country Day won the tournament with 23 points.
Buchanan scored points in three different flights, all in doubles competition.
Buchanan's No. 1 doubles team of Tracy Brelowski and Chelsea Ghataoura beat Colleen Manwell and Farren Samuels of Saginaw Nouvel 6-4, 7-6 (8) in the first round before bowing out in the second round.
The Bucks' No. 3 doubles team of Hannah Flood and Megan Vylonis received a bye in the first round. In the second round, Flood and Vylonis beat Katie Bates and McKenzie Pfau of Otsego 6-4, 6-03. The Buchanan team lost in the third round.
Buchanan's No. 4 doubles team of Tara Linville and Nicole Moyer beat Erica Eldridge and Brooke McHenry of Portland 6-4, 7-5 in the first round and then lost in the second round.
No. 1 singles player Jenny Zellman scored one point for Brandywine. She beat Erica Hyman of Otsego 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 in the first round and then lost in the second round.
The Brandywine No. 4 doubles team of Nikki Cooper and Courtney Schlutt also scored a point, beating Jessica Laird and Sara Skandalaris of Ann Arbor Greenhills 7-5, 6-1 in the first round. The Bobcats bowed out in the second round.
