Bill Daam, chief operating officer, Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital, has announced he will retire on June 30, 2007, after seven years with Borgess-Lee and 35 years with Borgess Health.
"Before going, I want to complete the medical arts building project for the residents of Cass County," said Daam. "When this is done, it's the perfect time for the next administrator to initiate another new era at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital. It is also a good time for me to begin a new era for myself and my wife."
"The City of Dowagiac and everyone associated with Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital can be proud of what Bill Daam has helped achieve since 2000,"said Dr. Charles Burling, chairman of the Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees. "Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital was transformed into a Critical Access Hospital during Mr. Daam's tenure. This allowed Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital to continue serving the community with 24/7 inpatient, outpatient and emergency care while also making the facility more financially viable.
"Due to Bill Daam's leadership, the new, 17,000-square-foot medical office building near the Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital campus will open next year," said Dr. Burling. "It will be a major plus for our hospital and our community. The state-of-the-art offices will provide space for six physicians who will bring new medical services that will benefit all of us."
A search committee will soon be formed to choose Bill Daam's successor.
A search firm will also be hired to identify and process candidates.
"We hope to have a new Chief Operating Office before June of next year," said Dr. Burling. "We will lean upon Bill Daam's expertise even more during this time to help with this transition along with everything else that Bill does so well."
