Dowagiac City Council extended City Manager William H. Nelson Jr.'s contract Monday night with 3-percent raises to his base compensation, car allowance and annual bonus.
Nelson's new salary effective Dec. 2, his 10th anniversary as city manager, will be $97,961, with a $580-a-month car allowance, plus mileage reimbursement for all city-related trips in excess of 200 miles round-trip.
His three-year contract also provides for a $6,976 performance bonus – half payable Dec. 1 each year and half on June 1.
Nelson receives 25 work days of annual vacation leave with pay.
Up to 10 days may be sold back to the city.
The city agrees to pay an amount equal to 20 percent of his gross base salary and car allowance into his retirement account.
Nelson thanked the council for its continued support.
Compensation amendments resulted from the council's annual review of his job performance.
