Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, 13988 Range Line Rd., Niles, announces its upcoming events:
Faerie Cottage Workshop
Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
We are pleased to bring back by popular demand Tatiana “Queen of the Faeries” Katara for another faerie cottage workshop. Tatiana provides materials to make a charming cottage that any faerie would love, either placed outside in your garden or displayed in your home.
Materials are provided, but please gather items to share, trade or donate, such as pine cones, acorns, seed pods, mosses, bark, lace, beads, buttons and pieces of glass and mirror. Use your imagination! Check out Tatiana’s Web site at www.faeriefactory.com for inspiration. Bring your lunch or have lunch in the Fernwood Cafe. Fee $90 (Members $75)
Gallery Exhibit: The Lakeshore Rug Hookers

Enjoy the final days of the exhibit by members of the Lakeshore Rug Hookers. The exhibit will be here through Nov. 15.
The art of rug hooking has been the focus of a great deal of attention in the world of arts and antiques. If you have the desire to be a “hooker,” are interested in collecting, would like to purchase a rug, or enjoy seeing this historic folk art, you won’t want to miss this exhibit. The Lakeshore Rug Hookers began with six members in 1999, holding their weekly gatherings in each other’s homes. The group meets every Monday at the St. Joseph Public Library. Everyone is welcome to attend their meetings.
Open House: Watercolorist Cyndy Callog’s 20th Annual ‘Holiday Celebration of Nature’
Friday, Nov. 20, 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 21, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
We are pleased to present the work of Michigan artist Cyndy Callog in our gallery for her 20th annual “Holiday Celebration of Nature.”
This premier showing will feature a special selection of many new original watercolors and limited edition prints, and a sparkling assortment of newly designed Christmas cards, note cards and gift items featuring Callog’s artwork. Callog refers to her paintings as, “a celebration of my faith, a celebration of my love of nature, and the beauty and peace I find there.” Callog’s exhibit will be in the in the gallery from Nov. 20 through Jan. 31.
Nature Saplings: Deer
Sunday, Nov. 15, 3 to 4 p.m.
Children ages 2 to 3 years old, accompanied by an adult, will enjoy this fun program all about deer. Please dress for walking the trails. Class size is limited.
Fee $5 for each child/adult pair. (Members $4 for each child/adult pair)
Winter Seed Sowing
Sunday, Nov. 15, 2 to 3 p.m.
Discover how easy it is to start next year’s garden plants at home this winter. Fernwood’s horticulturist, Steve Bornell, will show you how to make miniature greenhouses out of one-gallon milk jugs. You then can set your greenhouse outdoors for the winter and enjoy lovely flowers next summer!
All materials are provided; please dress for getting messy. This class fulfills one hour of Michigan Master Gardener continuing education credits. Advance registration is requested by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11. Inquiries after this date will be considered if space allows. Fee $18 (members $14)
Fernwood’s winter hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Fernwood is closed on Mondays.
