Architect hired for feasibility study

CASSOPOLIS – The Cass County Board of Commissioners on Thursday awarded a feasibility study for re-use of the 1899 courthouse and the attached county building to Kingscott Associates.
Commissioners appropriated $15,000 from the public improvement fund.
The board voted June 1 to ask the Building Authority to obtain proposals from professional design firms.
County Administrator Terry Proctor prepared a request for proposals that was circulated to area architects with experience in renovating older buildings and interest in governmental projects.
Maintenance Superintendent David Dickey and Proctor conducted two building tours for interested architects.
Each Building Authority member reviewed the seven written proposals received Aug. 17.
The authority on Oct. 4 decided to interview Kingscott, The Troyer Group and Schley Architects before recommending Kingscott to the commission.

In another Nov. 2 purchase, commissioners approved buying Dell servers and appropriated $21,053.76 from the Register of Deeds automation fund.
The board on Aug. 3 approved converting deeds microfilm to digital images.
Information Systems Director Kerry Collins obtained favorable pricing from Dell Computer Corp. for the four servers and a tape backup, leaving a $286,693 balance in the fund.
