Southwestern Michigan College will hold its 40th annual Turkey Trot on Monday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m.
Michiana's oldest race has made a change for its 40th year. There will not be two races this year. There will be one run involving both Michiana and the students at Southwestern Michigan College.
In past years, the college ran a separate Turkey Trot for its students.
The race features an 8K (5-mile), 5K run or walk and a 1-mile Fun Run. Entry fee for the 8K and 5K is $2. There is no fee for the Fun Run.
There is no advanced registration. Registration will take place from 3 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. in the Zollar Sports Center gynmasium.
Quality long sleeve T-shirts will be available for purchase for $15 (XXL shirts cost $2 extra). To reserve a shirt, send a check and shirt size to Ron Gunn, SMC, 58900 Cherry Grove Road, Dowagiac, MI 49047.
The Turkey Trot was founded in 1967 by the Sports Education Department at SMC and is run primarily for the intrinsic rewards found on the Roadrunner Trails.
The 5K course is flat to rolling and the 8K course has a couple of hills. This year's race will be held in conjunction with the SMC student/staff race.
Colorful, custom ribbons will be awarded to the top five finishers in 34 divisions. Drawing prizes for a turkey and SMC shirts will also be awarded.
