BUCHANAN -- How did Sheena Bradshaw score eight points in the first quarter as Buchanan beat Brandywine 52-37 Thursday night in Lakeland Conference basketball action?
Simple, she didn't have any defense to worry about.
When asked if he expected Bradshaw, the Bucks' fourth or fifth option offensively, to shoot that well, Brandywine coach Dave Roeder explained:
Bradshaw helped the Bucks take a 14-1 lead after one quarter. They maintained a healthy advantage until the third quarter when Brandywine went on a 9-1 run to close the margin to five points.
Buchanan responded to the Bobcats' run with an 8-0 run of its own to end the third period and cruised to the victory in the fourth.
The Bucks, now 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the league, played much of the game without starting point guard Ali Bender who committed three fouls in the first quarter and picked up her fourth early in the fourth quarter.
Bradshaw finished with a game-high 16 points on eight field goals. She was the only double-digit scorer for either team.
Buchanan travels to River Valley Tuesday. Brandywine (4-7, 2-5) returns to action Thursday at home against Berrien Springs.
The Brandywine junior varsity basketball team beat Buchanan 48-45 in overtime. Nikki Martyniuk paced the Bobcats with 11 points and Rachel Batman added nine. Brandywine's JV is now 8-2 overall and 7-0 in the Lakeland Conference.
