Despite a fine round of 37 from Nick Krizinski, the Dowagiac varsity golf team finished seventh at the Wolverine Conference Jamboree held at Lake Doster on Monday.
The Chieftains finished with a score of 170.
South Haven won the jamboree and continues to lead the league standings. The Rams finished with a team total of 150.
Vicksburg finished second with a 163, while Allegan was third with a 166. Host Plainwell and Otsego both shot 167 on the day. Comstock finished sixth with a 169.
Gull Lake, Three Rivers and Paw Paw rounded out the order of finish.
Besides Krizinski's score, the Chieftains also got a 41 from Richie Hutchinson, a 45 from Mike Hoff, a 47 from Tanner Melvin and a 48 from Kevin Proshwitz.
"I can see some headway with the team even though it's late in the season," Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said. "At this point, the guys are concerned with trying to make it through the district and go on to the regional tournament."
Dowagiac will host the regional at Hampshire Country Club on Oct. 13.
The Chieftains will play in the district tournament hosted by Kalamazoo Christian on Oct. 6.
The Chieftains are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Allegan for the final league jamboree to be held at the Lynx Golf Club.
Play is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
