Having won its last three games, the Niles soccer team came across a challenge that was a little bit too demanding Monday evening.
The Vikings, now 3-5-1 on the year, suffered a 3-2 loss to South Haven, a team which is 8-0 overall and was the state runner-up last season.
Niles scored the first goal of the game as Kyle Kidwell scored an unassisted goal in the fifth minute.
South Haven quickly responded with two unanswered goals in the next two minutes.
Kidwell scored again, to tie the game at 2-2, 15 minutes into the game on a penalty kick.
The game was then a draw until 25 minutes into the second half when the Rams capitalized on a corner kick to score the winning goal.
South Haven outshot Niles 14-6 and Cory Coquillard had 12 saves for the Vikings.
Niles travels to St. Joseph tonight for the final Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference West Division match of the season. A win would seal a first-place finish for the Vikings, which are 2-1 in the division.
