Juniors Chris Primley and Nathan Cottrell have been named the Daily News Athletes of the Week for Dec. 26-31.
Primley was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sturgis Bank &Trust Holiday Basketball Classic in White Pigeon as he helped Dowagiac to the championship.
The tournament was played Dec. 28 and Dec. 29.
Primley scored 13 points in Dowagiac's 69-60 win over Edwardsburg in the opening round and then 18 points in the Chieftains' 58-49 win over Cassopolis in the title game.
Cottrell went undefeated at the SMAC Team Wrestling Tournament held at the Kellogg Center in Battle Creek on Dec. 30.
Cottrell helped the Chieftains finish sixth.
Each week a male and female athlete are nominated by the Dowagiac coaches. Those nominations are received by Dowagiac Athletic Director Greg Younger, who then sends them on to the Daily News.
From those nominations two Athletes of the Week are selected.
