Niles All-Stars sweep Barnaby’s tourney field

The Niles 12-year-old All-Stars, a baseball team made up of players from local baseball leagues, recently went undefeated to win the Barnaby's 12 and Under Tournament at the South Bend (Ind.) East Side Little League.
The team is managed by Jim Brawley and team members include Cameron Sly, Alec Taylor, Mike Simpson, Andrew Brawley, Corey Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Taylor Ort, Asaad Ali, Nick Davis, Cam Luther and Tanner Melvin.
The team opened tournament play with a 4-2 victory over Penn-Harris Black. Luther struck out 10-of-25 batters in the game with just three walks.
Johnson led Niles at the plate with two doubles and Taylor added a single.
The Niles All-Stars then beat the Western Michigan Mustangs 10-0 in their second game. Ort lasted all four innings and struck out 7-of-15 batters with three walks.
Ort also led Niles at the plate with a home run, a double and a single. Johnson and Simpson also hit homers while Ali, Luther, Andrew Brawley, Melvin and Taylor each hit a single.
The All-Stars went on to beat UAW South Bend East Side 1-0 to reach the championship game. In that contest Luther struck out seven batters with two walks.
Ali hit a home run to lead Niles at the plate. Davis added a double while Johnson and Luther each singled.
Finally, the Niles All-Stars faced UAW South Bend East Side again in the championship match and earned an 8-3 victory. Ort struck out 13-of-30 batters with two walks.
Davis hit a home run and a single to lead the All-Stars. Johnson added a double while Ali, Luther, Simpson and Andrew Brawley each singled.
Ort was named the tournament MVP.
