Buchanan kickers slip past Dowagiac, 2-1

The Buchanan varsity soccer team defeated Dowagiac 2-1 in overtime on Saturday despite being outshot by the Chieftains, 41-10.
Buchanan's Zach Powers scored the winning goal in overtime to give the host Bucks (2-2-1) the non-conference victory.
Greg Latislaw put Buchanan on the board in the 21st minute of the match.
The Bucks were able to maintain that 1-0 lead throughout the first half despite Dowagiac having several chances to score.
The Chieftains (1-2-2) tied the match at 1-1 on a goal from Tony Black in the 74th minute off an assist from Brian Edgerly.
Buchanan goalkeeper Tim Mosier stopped 26 shots, while Dowagiac's Aaron Wilson had six saves.
Dowagiac returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Stevensville to open up Big 16 Conference West Division play against Lakeshore. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:45.

The Dowagiac junior varsity soccer team squared its record at 1-1 with a 3-1 victory over Buchanan on Saturday.
The Chieftains opened the scoring when Ben Soto scored in the 15th minute from outside the 18.
Dowagiac led 1-0 heading into the second half.
Jordan Daly scored a pair of second half goals with an assist from Jon Mitchell on both scores in the 45th and 58th minutes.
Buchanan's Josh Borr tied the score at 1-1 in the 42nd minute.
Buchanan outshot Dowagiac 15-10.
Dowagiac's Blake Zebell had 14 saves.
The Chieftains will travel to Stevensville on Tuesday to face Lakeshore.
The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
