Lone gunman robs DAF credit union

Saturday, Aug. 6, at about 11:20 a.m., a lone white male entered the front door of Dowagiac Area Federal Credit Union, 473 E. Division St.
After standing in the lobby for several seconds, he vaulted the counter through a teller window and gained access to the teller area.
Brandishing a small, silver handgun, he advised that it was a robbery and ordered employees and customers to comply.
He took cash from two teller stations and jumped back across the counter holding the cash and gun.
He exited the front door on the south side of the building, which faces the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall on E. Division Street, then fled east across Colby Street, entering a wooded area on foot.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Dowagiac Police Department and the FBI are investigating the hold-up.
Assistance was provided by the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
