Diamonds United advances in tourney

The Blossomland Soccer League continued its season-ending tournament Thursday evening, dodging yet another afternoon thunderstorm.
In Bridgman at Ott Field, Dowagiac Diamonds United held off Athletic Jaier FC, 4-3.
Over in Arden, the top-seeded St. Joe Kickers blanked the Mariners, 6-0.
The United (6-3) got a pair of goals from Ismael Hernandez, while Rodolfo Hernandez and Hector Requenes also scored goals.
Jaier got its goals from Ian Spooner, Troy Sink and Nashir Carabali.
Jaier is now 5-4 on the year.
Dowagiac will now face the Kickers in a semifinal contest on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Kickers Club in Arden.
Athletic Jaier will host the Mariners on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The match is tentatively slated for Lake Township Park.
In other matches this weekend, the Tornadoes (1-7-1) will host the Chiefs (4-5) in the second round on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ballard Elementary. Whirlpool United (7-1-1) will host P&R FC (6-3) in the second round on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Rockey Weed Field.
