A quick stop into Judd Lumber Building Supplies and Rental Center when Cheryl Frazier needed a strip of screen molding resulted in the Dowagiac woman receiving much more than she had dreamed.
On Monday, Frazier became the first winner of the 2005 Summer Shopping Spree promotion of the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Development Authority.
She won $100 in Universal Dowagiac Gift Certificates.
Vickie Phillipson, program director of the Chamber of Commerce and DDA, said this is the second year for the Chamber and DDA to team up with nine participating businesses to make it a memorable summer for three people who shop the Grand Old City of southwestern Michigan.
The Summer Shopping Spree, which launched June 1, continues through the end of August, with a winner drawn at the end of each month.
Phillipson said Frazier's winning ticket was drawn from a preliminary pool of nine semi-finalists, whose names were pulled from entries collected in June at each participating store.
Semi-finalists were: Ryan Withorn of Cassopolis, who registered at Booth's Country Florist; Sarah Mott of Dowagiac, who registered at Harding's Friendly Market; Jean Porath of Decatur, who registered at Imperial Furniture; Mary Schrader of Dowagiac, who registered at The Marshall Shoppe; Doreen Fryman of Dowagiac, who registered at Suite Dreams; Bob Stasiak of Dowagiac, who registered at Vincent J. Jewelers; Cheryl Borowski of Goshen, Ind., who registered at The Wounded Minnow Saloon; and Angela Garrelts of Dowagiac, who registered at Zeke's Restaurant.
New this year, the promotion is being held in conjunction with a three-month "Destination Dowagiac" television advertising campaign, which began airing in early June on WNDU Channel 16.
Participating sites are Booth's Country Florist, Harding's Friendly Market, Imperial Furniture, Judd Lumber Building Supplies and Rental Center, The Marshall Shoppe, Suite Dreams, Vincent J. Jewelers, Wounded Minnow Saloon and Zeke's Restaurant.
