The Dowagiac Athletic Department would like to announce the following events coming up in the next few weeks:
First of all, the 56th Annual All Sports Banquet will be held on Thursday, June 2, at 6 p.m. The keynote speaker will be University of Michigan head football coach Lloyd Carr.
Tickets are available at the athletic office, the high school office and at Hannapel Home Center. Tickets are $8 (in advance until May 27) for the meal and the awards program and $5 for just the awards program. Meal ticket sales will be limited to the first 375 sold. Meal tickets, if available, are $10 at the door.
Secondly, each year the athletic department, in conjunction with Lee Memorial Medical Group Pediatrics, sponsors sports physicals for students entering grades 7-12 who plan to participate in athletics the following year. Once again, we are offering $10 physicals.
The date is Thursday, June 9. No appointment is necessary but athletes with last names beginning with A-L are scheduled between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. and those with M-A last names are between 4:30 and 6:30.
A parent or guardian must be present. Physical forms may be picked up at Patrick Hamilton, Central Middle School, Union High School, or the athletic department.
The biggest fundraiser of the year for the Dowagiac Athletic Booster Club and the Dowagiac Union Schools Foundation is the Annual Chieftain Golf Outing. This year's outing is Thursday, June 16. Team space is very limited but if you would like to try and enter a team, the deadline is Wednesday, May 25.
Our "celebrity" guest for this year is the former quarterback of the 1988 Notre Dame National Championship team, Tony Rice.
Sponsorships are still available at this time also. Bronze sponsorships are $100, silver are $250 and gold is $1,000.
All of these activities indicate the end of the school year for 2004-05 is drawing near. Please plan to participate in any or all of these events.
