Niles draws first round bye in district tourney

Dowagiac and Niles will be in the opposite half of the bracket when the Division 2 District Softball Tournament opens up May 26.
Host Niles drew a first round bye and will open up play in the semifinals against Edwardsburg at 10 a.m. on May 30.
The Lady Vikings are the defending district champions.
The Chieftains will face St. Joseph in the opening round on Tuesday, May 26 at Niles High School. The game is slated to begin 5 p.m.
The winner will advance to the second semifinal on May 30 against Lakeshore. That game will be played at 12:30 p.m.
The championship game is slated for 3 p.m.
In baseball, St. Joseph and Dowagiac will meet on May 26 with the winner advancing to face defending champion Lakeshore on May 26 at 10 a.m.
Niles and Edwardsburg both drew byes and will play on May 30 at 12:30 p.m.
The championship game will be held at 3 p.m.
The Division 3 district pairings have arch rivals Brandywine and Buchanan squaring off in the opening round.
The Bucks and Bobcats will face each other in the pre-district round on May 26 at Bridgman High School at 4:45 p.m.
The winner will advance to take on the Bees in the semifinals on Saturday, May 30 at 10 a.m.
Berrien Springs and Cassopolis both received first round byes and will play in the other semifinal at noon.
The championship game is slated for 2 p.m. on May 30.
In softball, Buchanan and Brandywine will also play at 4:45 p.m. on May 26.
The winner moves on to the second semifinal on May 30 at noon against host Bridgman.
The Lady Rangers and Lady Shamrocks will open play at 10 a.m.
The championship game is set for 2 p.m.
