The Dowagiac varsity soccer team hasn't seen much of its home field this season, but Monday afternoon the Chieftains got a chance to host Edwardsburg in a non-conference match.
The Chieftains (3-4-1) scored a pair of first half goals en route to a 3-1 victory.
Jordan Markham got the Chieftains on the scoreboard first in the fourth minute before Hillary Bisnett, who started her first match since returning from injury, scored on a corner kick in the 30th minute.
Edwardsburg cut the lead to 2-1 15 minutes into the second half when Shelley Roberts tallied.
Dowagiac wasted little time rebuilding its two-goal advantage as Jill Billingham completed the scoring with a goal in the 60th minute.
Dowagiac outshot Edwardsburg 28-19.
Chieftain goalkeeper Jackie Sayre stopped 11 shots, while Edwardsburg keeper Jennie Haines stopped 18 shots.
The Chieftains return to action on Wednesday when they play in the first of two Big 16 Conference crossover matches.
Dowagiac will host Battle Creek Harper Creek at 5 p.m.
The Chieftains will play the second round of crossover games on Monday, May 9 when they travel to Loy Norrix.
