Marcellus Village President Allen Fisk was arraigned Monday afternoon in Fourth District Court, Cassopolis, on embezzlement charges.
Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz said Fisk is accused of removing some $13,000 from Trinity Bible Church, where he had been treasurer.
Michigan State Police at the Paw Paw post are investigating the case against Fisk, 45, of Marcellus.
Fisk entered village politics in 2000 and had been trustee and treasurer before becoming president in March 2002.
The lifelong Marcellus resident owns his own accounting and tax business.
Fitz said Fisk is charged with embezzlement and larceny by conversion for money missing over a three-year period, from mid-2002 to early this year.
District Judge Paul Deats set Fisk's bond at $5,000.
Fisk asked for a court-appointed attorney.
