CASSOPOLIS - Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reported Wednesday that Cass County Major Crimes Task Force investigators, with assistance from Kalamazoo County detectives, are conducting a suspicious death investigation in Marcellus Township.
An investigation began on March 2 after Kalamazoo County investigators received a tip that human remains had been buried on property at a residence on Cranberry Lake Street.
After two days of searching that included using heavy equipment and assistance from a Michigan State Police cadaver dog, remains were found that have since been identified as human in origin by an anthropologist from Michigan State University.
These human remains and other evidence that have led investigators to suspect foul play are currently being analyzed by the Michigan State Police forensic lab in Grand Rapids.
No arrests have been made in connection with this investigation.
The victim has not been identified at this time.
This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Cass County crime tip line at 1-800-462-9328 or the Cass County Sheriff's Office at 269/445-1560.
